i am doing laundry

“i am doing laundry” is a performence piece in which I invited viewers to work together in silence to take down dry clothes off of a clothing line and fold them to the side. They were also asked to hang wet clothes back up from a bucket of water. People's are asked to engage with the piece despite having nothing to gain from the labor. This highlights communal work as beneficial in itself. Laundry specifically is usually a female allocated task and has been done for most of history. A monotonous shared dance is created as people weave between each other with the fabrics to complete the piece.
